Analysis: KKR was a team spoiled for options when it came to retention, given they had formed a winning formula in the last IPL. Players like Shreyas Iyer, Mitchell Starc, Nitish Rana, and Venkatesh Iyer had to miss out. However, KKR has made smart retention decisions by keeping the West Indian duo of Russell and Narine, who have been stalwarts of the KKR franchise throughout the last decade. Retaining Indian finishers of the quality of Rinku and Ramandeep, which are often tough to acquire at a reasonable price in the auction, was also a priority for KKR. Retaining Harshit Rana at ₹4 crore is a great move, as he wouldn't have come cheaper in the mega auction.
